Kids Like Us Community Center will open soon to give children and adults with disabilities a place to develop social skills and independent living skills. Lisa Lyons, representing the center, said there were 80 in attendance at the grand opening, and it will officially open its doors Jan. 2. She said the center has a board including attorneys, special education teachers and community members. Northeast Community Credit Union was recognized for adopting the center and helping provide necessary funding for furnishings.
Some of the opportunities at the center include job training, sensory room, assistance with Individualized Education Programs, art and music rooms, yoga classes, parents education room and more. Lyons said while students have access to some of these services at school, this will create an environment for people of all ages and abilities to interact and develop life skills at no cost.
